Microsoft Whiteboard will slowly replace applications like SMART Notebook.
Using Microsoft Whiteboard Web App
To open the Microsoft Whiteboard web app log into Office 365. Then navigate to the Apps section, from there you will see the Whiteboard app listed, see below for reference.
The web app is very limited. You can really only use the pens tools and eraser. Whilst it can be useful if you are just writing notes it doesn't support the more useful features like custom backgrounds, shapes, tables and a lot more. For these additional features, you will need to use the desktop app installed on your device.
Using Microsoft Whiteboard Desktop App
Canvas View allows you to see all of your "Whiteboards" and choose to either create a new one or open a previously created one.
Step 1: To customise the settings/ options within Microsoft Whiteboard click the 3 stacked lines as shown below.
Step 2: Below you can see several different settings. These settings will allow you to share the Whiteboard you are working on. Among other things you can also change the backgrounds of the canvas in the settings section under "Format Background".
You can use the Pen Bar as outlined below to allow for different colours etc.
